Update 22 focused on the two MSCOS core outcomes, Safety from Traffickers and Suitable Housing. It explains the need to utilise existing licensing frameworks to prevent and combat modern slavery.

Update 21 focused on national responses to Safety from Any Trafficker or Other Abuser, which is a foundational requirement for all other MSCOS Core Outcomes. We feature the Trafficking in Human Beings in Ireland: The second Evaluation Report on the progress made and actions undertaken by the State to address and combat human trafficking, in all its forms by Ireland’s National Rapporteur on Human Trafficking.

Kate Davis, Review and Guidance Specialist for the Modern Slavery Organised Immigration Crime Unit explained the Unit’s work on cultural resources for best practice in policing; Operation Mandevilla, a pilot project with pregnancy advisory clinics in West Yorkshire; and partnership with Medaille Trust in relation to Achieving Best Evidence interviews.

Update 16 focused on the core outcome: Safety from Any Trafficker with specific focus on the critical need for safety of children and equally, young adults who often face withdrawal of support or inadequate support once they reach the age of 18.

Kezia Llewelyn, Associate Lecturer in Occupational Therapy at Brunel University and Dr. Nicola Wright, Associate Professor in Mental Health, School of Health Sciences, University of Nottingham explained how their work fits with the MSCOS model.

Update 12 focused on the core outcome: Finding Purpose in Life and Self-Actualisation. We selected it for our first forum, because rather than a ‘final outcome’ to be achieved after all other needs are met, this outcome represents the fundamental basis of recovery, well-being and integration, requiring the awareness of professionals from the outset.

Update 10 focused on the Relevant Frameworks for Children and Young People. Patricia Hynes, Professor of Social Justice at Sheffield Hallam University explained the Creating Stable Futures Positive Outcomes Framework for children and young people.

Update 9 focused on the core outcome: Safety from Any Trafficker or Other Abuser. We set out recommendations for criminal justice systems from our RAB. In their opinion, the professional employment of survivor leaders is key to effective criminal justice systems.
Update 8 focused on the core outcome: Access to Medical Treatment. Dr Allison Ward, presented the RESPOND multi-disciplinary, integrated healthcare service, hosted by University College London Hospitals, NHS Foundation Trust, which provides cohesive care and health planning for asylum seekers and refugees, including victims of human trafficking.

Update 7 focused on the core outcome: Long Term, Consistent Support. We are promoting the Independent Modern Slavery Advocate (IMSA) Model which has been developed by the British Red Cross, Hope for Justice and The Snowdrop Project, together with Independent Consultants with Lived Experience of Modern Slavery.

Update 6 focused on the core outcome: Safety from Any Trafficker or Other Abuser. We consider the need for criminal justice and redress for survivors of trafficking, which must include protection from prosecution for the crimes of traffickers.

Update 5 focused on the core outcome: Secure and Suitable Housing. We feature the Passage Modern Slavery toolkit, which was developed to equip homelessness organisations, local authorities and frontline workers with templates and documentation to create modern slavery services and multi-agency partnerships.

Update 4 focused on working with MSCOS as a set. This connects to a wide range of professional disciplines, services, agencies, and authorities, which can all be encompassed with a public health lens on modern slavery/human trafficking.

Update 3 focused on the core outcome: Safety from Any Trafficker or Other Abuser. We shared perspectives of RAB and other survivors on police training at all levels from recruitment onward, and the professional employment of survivor leaders within victim navigation and police teams.

Update 2 focused on the core outcome: Safety from Any Trafficker or Other Abuser. We featured the Victim Navigator’s Pilot model by Justice and Care and police forces in England, Scotland and Romania.
